Tom Hanks-5-1024x767Hanks his next role - astronaut and commander Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - brought him back together with Ron Howard. The film was generally praised by critics as well as the performance of the entire cast (which included Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris) and Kathleen Quinlan. The film received nominations for the Academy Awards nine times, and it was awarded two. The following year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. His directorial debut came a year later with the film You Do! (1996) which follows the rise and decline of a 1960s-era pop group, also playing the part of a music producer. The Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming", while most reviewers agree that Hanks performance earned him a spot among the top romantic comedy actors of his generation.
